Restorative & Cosmetic Dentistry

At Fountainville Family Dentistry, we provide treatments to repair damaged teeth and improve your smile. These treatments help restore dental health and also improve appearance.

Some treatments are needed to stop decay and protect teeth. Some other treatments are elective and focus on appearance. In both cases, the goal is the same. It is to give results that work well and also look natural.

Composite Fillings (Tooth-Colored Restorations)

If decay is found during the exam or on digital X-rays, we recommended composite restoration to treat the decay.

First the decayed enamel and dentin are removed, then a tooth-colored filling is placed. If a small decay is not treated in timely manner, the decay becomes bigger and deeper which can cause toothache and possible infection.

Clinical Application

Composite resin bonds directly to the tooth, unlike silver fillings that require additional removal of healthy tooth structure for retention. This allows for more preservation of natural enamel.

Procedure

After removing decay, the tooth is gently prepared with a conditioning solution. The resin is then placed in layers, with each layer hardened using a curing light. This creates a durable seal that helps prevent bacterial reinfection.

Patient Experience

You may feel vibration from the dental instrument and a cooling water spray during treatment. Once completed, the filling is shaped and polished to restore a natural bite and feel.

Zirconia and Ceramic Crowns

When a tooth is severely damaged—due to fracture, large decay, or root canal treatment—a crown may be required. This is necessary when the remaining tooth structure is not strong enough to function on its own.

Advanced Materials

We use zirconia and ceramic materials known for their strength, durability, and biocompatibility. These materials resist fracture and are designed for long-term performance.

Digital Dentistry

We use an intraoral scanner to take precise 3D digital impressions after tooth preparation. This ensures an accurate fit and strong seal to protect the underlying tooth.

Clinical Purpose

Crowns stabilize and protect weakened teeth, preventing further structural damage during chewing.

Porcelain Veneers & 3D Smile Design
Veneers are thin porcelain shells bonded to the front surfaces of teeth. They are used to correct discoloration, minor misalignment, and uneven tooth shapes.

3D Facial Analysis
We evaluate not only teeth but also facial harmony. A 3D facial scanner assesses lip movement and smile alignment to ensure natural-looking results during speaking and smiling.

Digital Wax-Up
A digital preview of your proposed smile is created before treatment begins. This allows you to review and approve the shape, length, and overall design in advance.

Cosmetic dentistry focuses on improving the appearance of your smile. While often elective, it can also support better oral hygiene by making teeth easier to maintain.

Professional Teeth Whitening

Over time, enamel becomes more porous and absorbs stains from food, beverages, and tobacco, leading to discoloration. Professional whitening uses clinically controlled peroxide-based gels to break down deep stains within the enamel.

Custom Treatment Delivery
Digital impressions are used to create custom whitening trays that ensure even distribution of gel while protecting the gums.

Safety Measures
Treatments are performed under clinical supervision with desensitizing agents included to minimize post-treatment sensitivity.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • In many cases, yes. Fillings, crowns, and bridges are used to maintain oral health. Most plans cover them at some level. Before your visit, If you request, we can provide a pre-treatment estimate. This helps you understand your coverage.

  • This depends on how much of the tooth is left. If the damage is small, a filling is sufficient. If a large part of the tooth is lost, a filling may not hold under chewing pressure. In that case, a crown is used to give more support and protection.

  • We use local anesthesia during the procedure. This keeps the area numb. You may feel some pressure or hear sounds, but there should be no pain. After the visit, the gums may feel slightly sore for a few days.

  • With proper care, veneers and crowns can last many years. Regular cleaning and daily care are important. In most cases, they last around 10 to 15 years. We also check them during each six-month visit.

  • Whitening works only on natural teeth. It does not change the color of crowns or fillings. If you plan cosmetic treatment, it is better to whiten your natural teeth first. Then the new restorations can be matched to that shade.
